Head for the Beaver Pond Hill viewpark and uncover the area’s
rich mining history. Then, dig a little deeper with a visit to the Miner’s Memorial Museum. It’s located in nearby St. Lawrence,
the largest community along this stretch of coast and home to
one of the world’s biggest fluorite deposits. Hear the tale of the Truxtun and Pollux – a maritime disaster that’s
remembered as much for the humanity it
triggered, as it is for the lives that were lost.
Head out along the Chamber Cove Trail to visit
the wreck site of the USS Truxtun. Then, pay your
respects at the Echoes of Valour monument - a
dramatic sculpture and outdoor exhibit that pays
tribute to lives lost and courage found. Today,
St. Lawrence is best known for its soccer teams,
who have represented Newfoundland in national
competition more times than all other provincial
teams combined. Stick around for a game and
cheer for the home team.
