Think "green" as you travel the Heritage Run! The color is everywhere!
The Burin Peninsula is misleadingly little: only 161 km in length and 40 km at its widest point. The rock layer takes in some of the earth's older geology. Along the Heritage Run waterfalls are a common sight, with the most popular at Brookside/Boat Harbour West and Grand Le Pierre.
Areas around Grand Bank, Garnish and Winterland are the most forested regions of the Heritage Run. The wide expanse of horizon along the French Island Trail is where the wind races against the rolling waves along never-ending beaches. Hundreds of small bays, inlets and coves are etched into the peninsula's coastline. This is where a photographer could get lost!!
Vantage points are varied. Before modern communication technology, the highest point of land was crucial for determining the whereabouts of ships at sea and for predicting the weather. Some, like Captain Cook's Lookout in Burin, have been visited for centuries.
The Heritage Run provides many opportunities to experience nature at eye level. This a great area for whale watching, tour lighthouses; walk on the many hiking trails and berry picking.
Bird watchers will enjoy seeing colonies of the rare Manx Shearwater and the Leach's Storm Petrel on Middle Lawn Island, off Lamaline. At Spanish Room watchers can see ring-billed gulls.

Yes, more shades of "green" at Grande Meadows Gold Course in Frenchman's Cove. This is a season that has been long growing on the Burin Peninsula. This seaside location is open to golfers early in the spring until late autumn.
The recently developed Winterland EcoMuseum is a popular attraction for visitors as well as residents of the Burin Peninsula. The property is wheelchair accessible and is an outstanding vantage point to see the peninsula's plant life with expert interpretation. The hiking trails on the Heritage Run are both developed and natural and geared for hikers at all levels.
St. Lawrence has been long known as the soccer capital of Canada! The St. Lawrence Laurentians have taken home more championships than any other community of its size in the country.

Frenchman's Cove Provincial Park, Golden Sands Resort and Freshwater Pond Park are local holiday favorites and should not be missed on your vacation to the Heritage Run.
