About the Heritage Run Tourism Association

From 1986 until 1992 the Burin Peninsula Tourism Association was committed to developing tourism in the region. In 1992, the Heritage Run Tourism Association( HRTA) assumed the role of representing the tourism interests of the Burin Peninsula. In 1997, the Schooner Regional Development Association, in partnership with the Department of Development and Rural Renewal assisted the Association in obtaining funding from Human Resources Development Canada to employ staff for the association. Currently, there is a Business Manager and a Marketing Manager employed full- time with the HRTA.

The HRTA is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors who are representatives of the business, municipal, cultural/heritage and tourism operators throughout the Peninsula. Several committees and subcommittees have been established to deal with specific initiatives of the HRTA. Ex-officio's from the Department of Development and Rural Renewal, Schooner Regional Development Corporation and the Department of Tourism, Cultural and Recreation, as well as business and professional advisors, provide invaluable tourism related insight and information to the staff and Board of Directors of the Association.

The Mission of the Heritage Run Tourism Association:

  1. To identify and help foster further development of anchor attractions on the Burin Peninsula.
  2. To promote the concept of the Burin Peninsula as regional package.
  3. To spearhead and coordinate tourism packaging on the Burin Peninsula.
  4. To Coordinate research and other support for regional tourism packaging.
  5. To educate people on the Burin Peninsula about the unique character of the region and their community, and the importance of anchor attractions from a national and international perspective.
